Anthony Doerr is the author of a short story collection, The Shell Collector, and a novel, About Grace. His fiction has appeared in numerous publications, including the O. Henry Prize Stories, Paris Review, Atlantic Monthly, Zoetrope: All Story, and The Best American Short Stories. The Shell Collector was published in 2002 and won the Barnes & Noble Discover Prize, two O. Henry Prizes, the Rome Prize, and the Ohioana Book Award. It was a New York Times Notable Book and an American Library Association Book of the Year. About Grace, his first novel, was published in September of 2004 and was named a Best Book of 2004 by the Washington Post, and the Best Book of the Year by the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. He also writes a bimonthly column on science-related books for the Boston Globe. Doerr lives with his wife and two sons in Rome, Italy, and Boise, Idaho.
