Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II

Rev. Dr. William Barber II is the architect of the Forward Together Moral Fusion movement that gained national acclaim with its Moral Monday protests at the North Carolina General Assembly in 2013. These weekly actions drew tens of thousands of North Carolinians and other moral witnesses to the state legislature. More than 1,050 peaceful protesters were arrested, handcuffed, and jailed. Their crime? Making a prophetic moral witness against the hate-filled language and policies the extremists passed in the North Carolina General Assembly. A highly sought after speaker, he has been invited to speak to hundreds of national and state conferences. He has spoken to national unions and small organizing committees of domestic workers, housekeepers, public workers, gatherings of Christians, Jews, Muslims, atheists, and other people of conscience. He has spoken to fraternities, sororities, motorcycle organizations, drug dealer conferences, women’s groups, LGBTQ groups, environmental and criminal justice groups, and over a thousand NAACP conferences and meetings in North Carolina and across the south since he was elected President of the N.C. Conference of NAACP Branches in 2005. His latest book is The Third Reconstruction, (Beacon Press, 2016).
